Badge and Seal
The company has occasionally used a variant of the ‘Bermondsey Abbey Lion’ as a logo on dinner invitations, but the College of Arms’ Windsor Herald, William Hunt, had indicated that this is improper and that they have no record of any arms being granted to the company. However, the ‘seal’ as mentioned at §2 of the Charter is only an embossed title with foundation date press. The Court adopted the more heraldicly relevant Badge of ‘On a Hide Azure An Oak Tree Proper charged with Acorns Or’ in that the traditional tanning process of a hide involves the use of oak. The Seal now incorporates the Company Badge and Motto: Planto Velieris In Tergus In Vermundesei is academic Latin for “Make Hide Into Leather In Bermondsey”.
